The engineering culture is one of the most important priorities at Appliscale. From the beginning when we were 10+ people in the company, we always valued knowledge sharing and invested time in sharing ideas. We have been rapidly growing at Appliscale which makes it easier for us to try out new initiatives as we have more volunteers eager to contribute. Thanks to that, 2021 has brought two new initiatives into our engineering life.
R&D Initiatives
The weekly knowledge sharing initiative has been with us for several years. In 2021, we have made some substantial changes. We managed to extend the team and create two subdivisions. That helped us to provide new forms of knowledge sharing both via presentation and coding sessions. The whole Knowledge Sharing team is about to post details on its achievements on January 17th. Stay tuned and watch our blog!
The Appliscale newsletter is a new internal initiative we kicked off last year. Nowadays, each of us is being overloaded by the amount of news, ideas that are being shared on the Internet. The truth is, not everything is worth our attention and are time consuming to read. Due to that, we have created a group which is pre-filtering the news for all our engineering staff. The mailing list has been successfully delivering newsletters since summer 2021. On January 24th, the newsletter team is going to share interesting statistics and information about our internal Appliscale newsletter section, check those out!
Last but not least, we have launched the Appliscale lab. Its aim is to provide an environment where a group of people can try out new technologies or new approaches to the known issues. We started the first pilot Lab project in Q4 and plan to finish it within the upcoming weeks. At the moment we can disclose that the topic is related to Big Data and AdTech. For more details, please visit our blog on January 31st, where the current lab team is going to present the sneak peek of Appliscale’s lab first project.
R&D Plans
It gives me personally lots of joy to observe the growth of our R&D unit. Two years ago the team consisted of just three people. The initiative has expanded considerably since then. Assuming the upward trend continues, we will shortly reach the headcount of 20 active contributors.
Furthermore, each R&D division has already solid growth plans for 2022 including active contributions to this engineering blog.
We hope the topics discussed here will match your interests and are valuable to you. If you would like to work on similar challenges as our colleagues, we are actively hiring. Feel free to check our career page.
